Professional associations, standardization of roles

I am a long-time and still enthusiastic member of the Society for Technical Communication. In fact, I'm currently president of a Harrisburg-based chapter, and will be attending the national conference in Philadelphia this year. (June 1 - 4, 2008, I believe.)

But apparently while i wasn't looking, an organization of business analysts has been working to create a 200+ page  body of knowledge since 2005 or so, to define best practices. I gather the organization first formed in 2004.

It is a fascinating concept, and, if successful, opens up the possibility of standardizing other ill-defined roles in technical communication such as technical writer or trainer. I'll have to take a closer look at this ambitious effort.
